Sorry, let me just add one last fact, there is no possibility of a save without Wins so if we go by CWS logic Wins are the most important stat of the 3 so let's have a poll for Wins being added.

Would more people be okay if we made seperate categories? That way it don't take away from closers? Could we even do Net Holds?

For balance you would need another hitting cat. I suppose that would be the next league argument.

I was thinking that too. We could mix it up and do strikeouts for offense.

The only point that he is making is that I am right. By adding one category it doesn't devalue another. Just let people add what they would like to add. Let people discuss what they would like to add and we come to an agreement on adding 1 to each hitting and pitching or 2 each. Whatever works best. I can laugh all day at people who try to attack others because of their narrow minded views, but I would rather see things from every angle.

having uneven stat cats would help eliminate the possibility of ties too , i see where a tie could still could happen but it would be less likely to end in a tie match-up having 1 more stat in the pitching than the hitting , and if we add net save/hlds and take out saves we will still be even stat cats , so no need to worry there

Just an idea here since people are throwing them out, I have heard this morning that since we have a negative accumulative pitching stat like HR's allowed that maybe we should have one for positional players like errors. I have seen this before and it works just as easy as HR's allowed. I also said this last winter, since we're having hitting and pitching stats why not have a fielding stat. I would like to see the cats expanded to maybe include total put outs or maybe fielding %.
I also like what ARI has said about having uneven cats to reduce the chance of a tie. There are a lot of teams right now bunched up in the middle of the standings because of ties. What I see happening in a few weeks is someone won't make the #8 spot for the playoffs and they will want an explanation why since they might have the same record as the #8 seeded team. Oh sure someone will say they should have won one more game but that would be satisfactory. One last suggestion, if we had an even amount of cats each year like an extra hitting cat then the following year we could have an extra pitching cat. If this was decided ahead of time then each team can make whatever adjustments they seem necessary for their own teams.

My argument comes from this, holds guys don't make close to the same money as closers, let's say we add holds, why would someone want to have a closer that will cost over 10mil when there are a lot of holds guys with similar numbers costing under 5. Obviously the mlb values saves more than holds, why should we value them equally. There are 6 categories a pitcher can contribute in. For relievers it's 5 QS is thrown out, and HR is just there I guess, can't contribute to it. So all relievers can contribute to WHIP, ERA, K/9, and K. Closers which cost way more in most cases contribute saves, and good owners plan ahead and pick up the set up men that get the closers job if the current ones fail. I think adding holds could really stagnate the league in terms of trades, there are a ton of holds guys and like I've said before you can have 4 or 5 holds in 1 game while there is the possibility of just 1 save, how is that equal? I think the money argument might be the biggest thing. Why wouldn't one just have 5 guys who cost 1M to get holds instead of having 2 closers for 10M I like what we have now and don't think it is a problem

thats the thing , if holds counted u wouldn't be able to afford that many of them , knowing u now get credit for holds , do u think i will let u build a stable of set up guys for cheap

Well look at some of the set up guys. The 8th inning is becoming more important. Look at Wade Davis. He makes just as much as a closer. What about Storen? If we counted holds he would still have the same value. It's going to come down to the teams that have decided to spend the money on closers are voting no. I think if we did a seperate category it wouldn't take away from the saves. Cause the teams with closers will also have some set up RP. The average RP has about 10 holds so far this season. Right now I have 5 RP and I have 52 holds. If I would of had 2 closers I would have about 50 saves.

Thanks guys for the big amount of input. As for right now, we have enough input to work with. We are going to find a solution that will benefit and improve the league. I appreciate everyone's enthusiasm about this and I promise to work hard to get this right.
As the voting is closing tomorrow. I sent out an mail to all managers who have not voted yet.
I am going on a little vacation now. Hannes

I don't know if anyone has suggested this, but we could compromise and have Saves and Saves + Holds.
That would make Saves 2x as valuable vs. Holds, since they would be counted twice.

definitely solves the problem of not having hold be equal to saves , great idea Cleveland
