Information and Changes for 2016 Season

Hey guys,

Our first season is approaching the playoffs and it is time to adress the changes for the 2016 season.
Bryan and me have discussed a few changes that are necessary to keep the league competetive.

These are the changes that will be implied after the last week of this season:
1. DEV-Roster expands to 5 Players (limits for MiLB and DEV-Roster stay the same)
2. Every team must have at least 9 positions players on their active roster (that is a must starting on opening day 2016)
3. Free Agent Contract Extensions: e.g. player like Cueto
- Every team has until March 1st to decide if they want to keep the player and their new contract.
- If a team decides to let the player go into Free Agency they can still bid on him and get a 20% discount if you win the bidding
- If you let a top 50 player (according to Yahoo end of the year ranking) go into Free Agency you get a compensation pick
- For a player ranked between 1-25 you get a 1st Round Compensation
- For a player ranked between 26-50 you get a 2nd Round Compensation

4. The 2015 New Player Draft
- 5 Rounds
- 24h window to make picks
- no trading allowed
- Internation Draftees are elgibile for this draft (e.g. Vlad Guerrero Jr.....)
- International Players like Puig will be auctioned again (there will be a list of players that we will bid on)

There is one thing I would like the whole league to think about: I got some requests about changing the Saves category to
Saves+Holds. I personally would like to keep the Saves only. But if you guys want holds in there we can do that.

I would ask all teams to VOTE (poll closes August 2nd at 8PM) on this and POST a short comment that you read this announcement.

I voted no on saves because teams have already built their rosters on the current rules, as well as the fact that it is possible for 1 team to get 3, 4 and maybe even 5 holds in a game so why should that be held as the same value as a save.

I know in many cases holds lead to the save but for LOOGY's holds can be one out many times while saves are at minimum 3 outs 95% of the time for closers.

I agree with Miami on this.

Also, a limited number of players that provide Saves (vs. more than doubling that for Saves+ Hold) keeps the value of that stat high, making it a stat that you have to purposefully pursue, encouraging trades, etc...

I voted for it , holds are a legitimate MLB stat and by adding this category it will add value to the league going foreward , ....if ur in a league with 10 teams then every one has a opertunity to own a couple top closers , in this league most teams r lucky to own a couple closers at all , and on nights where a guy comes in and gets a hold and the closer comes in and blows the save that would be zero in the net save hold if u happened to own both , ...example...I have O'day and Britton ....if O'day holds the lead and Britton blows the save , I can't understand why we wouldn't want to add value to the player pool and to the league

I agree with Arizona, there are too many teams in this league to only count Saves. maybe Net SV+holds would be better?

I think holds are a viable part of the game and voted for adding it to Saves. But maybe separate categories? and adding a batting category to balance it out? Errors or assists would be a fun additions.

I think holds should be counted for something since not every team can have a closer. More set up men are getting paid more money. I think it will even out cause a team might have 2 closers playing against a team that has 2 set up guys.

My argument comes from this, holds guys don't make close to the same money as closers, let's say we add holds, why would someone want to have a closer that will cost over 10mil when there are a lot of holds guys with similar numbers costing under 5. Obviously the mlb values saves more than holds,why should we value them equally.

There are 6 categories a pitcher can contribute in. For relievers it's 5 QS is thrown out, and HR is just there I guess, can't contribute to it. So all relievers can contribute to WHIP, ERA, K/9, and K. Closers which cost way more in most cases contribute saves, and good owners plan ahead and pick up the set up men that get the closers job if the current ones fail.

I think adding holds could really stagnate the league in terms of trades, there are a ton of holds guys and like I've said before you can have 4 or 5 holds in 1 game while there is the possibility of just 1 save, how is that equal?

I totally agree with MIA on this. 100%
No one remembers the guy with the most holds.
I know that it is a standard fantasy baseball category, but I think it just does not fit into our league.
It is a lot easier to load up on holds than saves. This year Kansas City (the real team) often pulled starters after 5 IP and then had 3 guys (Innings 6,7,8) getting the hold.

Then why do we have net stolen bases , it should be two seperare catagories ...... Stolen bases and caught stealing , sometimes a manager will ask a guy to steal who isn't a BASE STEALER. So to speak and when that guy gets caught it takes away from guys who r the base stealers , obviously I am not suggesting we change that stat too , I am just trying to make the point that adding holds adds player depth and player value to our league , there are plenty of guys who could be utilized who r not and as a side note , a lot of relief (hold guys) become closers , and like anything else u still gotta manage the team
