You would be able to do a QO once a year for one player and only that player one time. At the end of the qualify offer year, the team would have to either take on his actual contract or put him as a free agent in our league and he would be bid on.
We would not be able to lose draft picks for 2 reason. Like Miami said, people have traded away their picks. And like Ryan said the player can't turn down "our QO". And that's why we have compensation picks for letting top free agents go.

-- I like the comp pick sandwiched somewhere between rounds based on player value. -- I like the idea of using the QO once per player per team. I would also add if that player is traded during the season then the acquiring team loses all rights to that player in the next off season resulting in that player being a league wide FA and no 20% hometown discount.

Whatever we decide - IF - we should implement this at the end of the 2016 season.
The reason I brought this up, is for an extra incentive to release a FA to the general pool.
Another example, if we had the QO rule in place I probably wouldn't have traded Zobrist.

Or another twist we could do is make it a like a franchise tag in football. You select one player to get a QO for one year but after that year he is automatically a free agent after the next season and then you get a compensation pick that draft.
So like if we had this rule now. I could put David Price for a QO. I get him for one year at $15.8M. But after the 2016 season he is a UFA and I can't extend him and he would go to auction. But I would get a compensation pick in the 2016 draft. This would only be for real life free agents and not league free agents that we bid on in the past. For example, Pujols was won by auction last season and he's a league free agent now. He can not be used for a QO the next season.

I would like to table this idea for the moment. Maybe a few of us, for example NYY/CHC/CAL, can get together and make up some guidelines and then present them to the league at a future date.

Hope not. I'm hoping it's like 2 years $10M. He had a great contract from TB. But now he will want some money.

I just want to say even though we have some disagreements in this league we try to make the bet choice to make everyone happy and want to have fun. I'm really glad I'm part of this league. I love how people are trying to give suggestions to even make this league better. I love that us, upper management, is fair and don't make rules and decisions to make certain "buddies" better. And if you ever feel that let me and Hannes know. I certaintly don't want to be that way.
I just wanted to say how much I love being in this league and being a part of it.

I for one hate the "buddy system" in these games. I'm currently in a start up 30 team salary league and a few of us are questioning "certain clicks" within the league. Oh sure a few of us get along better with some people and some people keep their distance from others but overall this is a very solid league. I love the variety of play each of us bring to this league.

In that league we can have our own team's real life players that have less than 6 years service time and prospects. We have to protect them by paying them a salary. Even the prospects we have to pay $300K for them if we want to protect them. If you don't protect them and they get traded in real life the team that gets them in real life gets those players in that league. It's a new league so there are unowned teams yet. The management posted that the players that are on unowned teams are protected cause of no ownership. 7 hours later their "buddy" received Kimbrell cause of the real life trade and SD was unowned and therefore couldn't protect the players. When questioned by us, management said their new rule started Nov 14th and the trade was the 13th so it was allowed. So it's very fishy.
