We are a few days away from learning the names of the top guys to aim for in next years Prospect draft.

Here is a large list of my top Prospects. 


Travis Bazzana - I've had this guy on my radar for years and He is up there expected to go 1st overall to the Guardians. 

Hagen Smith - Lefty Throwing Smith operates at 94-97 mph and touches 100 with his fastball, Reminds me of a Left handed Paul Skenes... yes you read that correct. Hagen Smith is just 20 Years old. 

JJ Wetherholt - Top SS prospect in the draft. 

Chase Burns- Best Fastball in the Draft IMO. RHP out of Wake Forest has put up solid numbers

Cam Caminiti - This kid has been on peoples radar for as long as Travis Bazzana. But he was like 11 years old... He was a Solid hitter that played 1b and Pitched as well... Kid is 17 and touches 97. 

Tommy White- Power hitting Tommy White reminds me of Pete Alonso. 

James Tibbs- Juan Soto Comps from some scouts. 

Nick Kurtz- Young Matt Olsen

Jac Caglianone-  "While calling him the “next Shohei Ohtani” might be unfair, Caglianone is the best two-way player in the nation" - right from the write up. 

Konnor Griffin- Each year Jackson Prep's best Top Prospect ends up getting drafted Konnor Griffin has been on the radar a long time as well. He still has 4 years of college though. 

Braden Montgomery- "Power is Montgomery's true calling card, as MLB Pipeline gives him a 60 grade on MLB Pipeline's 20-80 scale. That type of pop has produced big flies measured at upwards of 450 feet, and makes him a 30-home run threat in the future as he heads toward pro ball" -MLB dot COM 

Vance Honeycutt- He broke into college baseball by hitting a school-record 25 homers and stealing 29 bases as a freshman and has recorded similar numbers this spring. For Some reason he reminds me of Trea Turner when he played CF for a little while... 

Not in the draft is Roki Sasaki- He is in the Top 5 of prospects for our league as well... Hoping he comes over from Japan. Rōki Sasaki, nicknamed "the Monster of the Reiwa Era" - This is Japans Next Godzilla... but not in the form of hitting like Matsui... but Pitching... He in my opinion is the Best Pitcher in the draft. (Career ERA 1.91 over the course of 363 Innings/ 11.5 k/9)  

Either Way there are tons of great picks coming into the league.

Noteable takeaways from the draft list.

Catcher is a significantly weak position in this years draft.

17. C Malcolm Moore, Stanford
Don’t be fooled by Moore’s paltry .255 batting average anchored by a preposterously low .229 BABIP. His OPS as a sophomore (.967) surpassed what he did as a freshman All-American in 2023 (.950), thanks in large part to his more than doubling his walk rate while continuing to impact the ball in the air with consistency (.298 ISO). Moore’s power/patience combo from the left side is plenty appealing on its own; that it comes in the form of a catcher is what makes him such an exciting prospect.

18. C Walker Janek, Sam Houston
While Moore has been well-known in scouting circles since his high school days, the same cannot be said about Janek. Like Colton Cowser not too long ago, Janek didn’t stand out in the expansive landscape of Texas high school baseball. Perfect Game tabbed Cowser as the 234th best player in the Lone Star State in the 2018 class and Janek as the 213th in 2021. But just as Cowser launched himself out of obscurity during his three years as a Bearkat to become the fifth overall draft pick in 2021, Janek has charted a similar trajectory. He won’t go quite as high as Cowser, but he has gotten better with the bat every year — .888 OPS as a freshman, .926 as a sophomore, 1.193 as a junior — and has strong defensive chops headlined by a fantastic arm. Janek’s impact on both sides of the ball helped earn him the Buster Posey Award for best catcher in college baseball in 2024, and it should be the reason he hears his name called in the first round.

These are the top 2 and in my opinion not worth a 1st or 2nd round pick. I view Janek higher then Moore. 

It also seems to me this is a relatively thin Draft class... It seems like everything outside the top 40 are going to struggle to make rosters. Even so, There are A LOT of prep kids, guys that are going to take 5 years to hit the league. not that they are not talented. It's just that College Baseball did not really have that exciting of a year after the Majority of the top Talent got grabbed up last season. Few Highlight players, but they are sitting in the top 40.

Majority of the College Pitching Prospects are 3rd round picks in my opinion... you have like 5 Pitchers in the first 2 rounds that will break through in under 3 years. Then you have a bulk of the top Prospected Prep Kids going in front of the tried and tested college Pitchers. That list starts with Jonathan Santucci ranked 36th overall... Then starts the run of College arms...

Some of those college guys will break through before the Prospects and the managers that scout this group will be able to steal them with a mid-late 2n round pick. Yes I do believe the Prep Pitchers are better then the College Pitchers and that the List is Accurate in majority of those Prep kids... 3 of them high injury risk to me... but the rest of those prep kids have higher ceilings for success. Except maybe Ben Hess, That guy is a late 1st round or early 2nd round Pitcher. 

I think that the MLB has really shifted on the way they view acquiring pitchers into the teams. With the Pitch Clock... more and more teams are spending their picks on these prep guys because they they want them to be developed for MLB play younger... Example Noah Shultz prospect #18. 

I think this draft has More Hitting then Pitching, but there are like 6 Pitching Prospects in this years draft that I can see as Ace's and Front-End Starters for whoever signs them.

If you need Pitching in this draft, you will have to really do your research to Pick winners in my opinion. A huge chunk are these prep kids, some of them will require Tommy John. The College Pitchers Don't really have High Ceilings... I have 6 guys that I view as Aces, The Prep Kids in this years draft don't feel as safe as let's say Nobel Meyer from last years draft. All of the prep pitchers feel like gambles in this years draft. The rest of those College Pitchers I can see Ben Hess as like a #2 Starter if he reaches his peak, and the rest of them 3-6 on rotation... Like the best you might get outta them is a Marcus Stroman and that is if that prospect goes to the right team and field... 

Definitely a more Position Player Heavy Draft... You will definitely be able to fill in gaps for your team in terms of positional players. A Lot of good answers to contracts that are ending in 2-3 years.
