So I have been doing some research and the guys at fantasy pros have this as their top 20 which may also look very similar to our own 1st round of the FYPD.
The top 4 picks are MLB ready in my opinion and almost 100% sure that the top 5 picks will mirror our draft.
Picks 6-10 I have the feeling that guys closer to MLB will go here, Chase Davis, Matt Shaw, Brock Wilken, Brayden Taylor, Tommy Troy, Hursten Waldrep,
Picks 12-15 you will see those high school players go. Max Clarke, Arjun Nimmala, Nobel Meyer,Aiden Miller,
Pick 16-20 Enrique Bradfield, Rhett Lowder, Nolan Schanuel, Brice Matthews, Colin Houck
Couple things to note here, Bryce Eldridge is listed as a 2 way player and might be worth a pick inside the top 20. Kyle Teel is probably the best catching prospect and not listed in the top 30, so this goes to show how deep the hitting is in this draft.
Pitching does not seem to be as strong as previos drafts.
34 percent of the first round draft picks never make it.
66% of 1st rounders play at least 1 MLB game.
49% of 2nd rounders play at least 1 MLB game.
With the new MLB rules changes, SB is a category everyone is going to start paying attention too.
The Projected top 7 players in 2024
1. Acuna Jr. 2. Witt Jr. 3. Julio Rodriguez 4. Corbin Carroll 5. Spencer Strider 6. Kyle Tucker 7. Trea Turner in redraft leagues...
All of the position Players have a minimum of 20 SB.
That 16-30 range of players Is where I think our leagues draft is going to start to turn away from the top 20 that is posted. Everyone in this group I value about the same in terms of talent and potential to break through, leverage going to the 1st round picks. Managers are going to fill team needs here more so then the best available talent...
Picks 1-4 are players you build your franchise around... The A's have 3 of these picks... That is so dangerous. No one is going to have a better off-season.
(Adding on 11/9) Couple other things to notice
The Marlins chose The best RHP and LHP High school prospects in Nobel Meyer and Thomas White. Thomas White also shares an Agent with some of the top Players Mr. Scott Boras .
A record number of 2 way players were drafted in this years draft. Bryce Eldritch is the clear best two way player from this years draft, The Giant's also took the best two way player last year with Reggie Crawford.
They rank Nolan Mclean(NYM IRL) over Trevor Werner (KC IRL) but Trevor Werner is tearing up the Arizona Fall League Right now and I can see him getting picked up somewhere between 7-18 pick come January.
That might push guys like Nolan Schanuel or Colin Houck types into the second round.
Yohandy morales is an interesting pick for the nationals as he can be a 40hr guy, and he was taken by the Nationals in the 2nd round and Travis Sykora in the 3rd... and honestly all 3 of these guys might be up before other teams even get there picks to graduate high school... They would also all be playing together on the same team in like 2025-2026
two interesting OF that caught my eye are Kendall George and Dillon Head with George getting comps to Juan Pierre... Head will be better for fantasy as he might develop into a 25 HR 25 SB type player, while George has the speed to rival Ricky Henderson, However his hit tool isn't that great and he could really do better with his discipline. But Kendall George I have comped to a faster Myles Straw. Both of these players are second round values, but with SB becoming such a factor to win a championship, you might see a manger willing to reach on one of these guys to fill the SB gap down the road.
Cooper Pratt is a 2nd rounder getting comps to Gunnar Henderson
Alex Clemmy is a 2nd round LHP picked by the guardians, Perfect landing spot for this guy. They develop some of the best pitching prospects. 6 foot 6 hitting 99MPH with his FB and an above average Curveball and changeup.
Alonzo Tredwell also piques my interest being drafted by the Astros. 6 foot 8 right hander... The most interesting stat that popped out to me and others is his 1.1 BB/per 9 stat. The astros also have the highest percentage of draft picks making the majors at 23% of all picks.
Johnny Farmello and Tai Peete are to comp picks by the Mariners that interest me. They seem to be doing alright in the AFL and even thogh they will have a long development, they might have what it takes to play in the MLB... or draft fodder for the Mariners later. Even though these guys got picked by the Mariners, one of them could be the SS for the White Sox or Cardinals or something in like 2027.
Josh Knoth is from Long Island and one of his pitching coaches was in a forum I was in and mentioned his name a few years ago. He was a Comp pick by the Brewers. They couldn't stop talking about his breaking ball. His coaches really wanted him to be a starter but they really think he could be one of the best set up men in baseball.
He doesn't have the put away stuff of a closer, but this is one guys I can see being an 8th inning holds leader. That is what makes him interesting. He was commited to play at ole miss, but he reported to the Arizona Fall League but is not throwing yet. He had one of the highest rated Curveballs among all prospects in this years draft.
George Lombard Jr. is a pick everyone is scratching there heads about. However, for some strange reason, The Yankees have a pretty high rating of picks breaking through into the majors. it's above 20%... However most of those players break through for other teams after being traded. I think George Lombard Jr. will fall into this category. You could see a package deal going to the pirates that would bring O'Niel Cruz to the Bronx as a Left Handed DH or something along those lines in like 2026.
We have no idea how good any of these players will be and I guess that is the fun in it.
