This suggestion came up for a vote again. This would be for players that are going to miss or miss the start of the 2024 season. This will only save a roster spot. They would still count towards the salary cap.
Another suggestion on top of that is...if you put a player on the offseason IR, you can not activate them until after the Allstar break in 2024. Even if they return earlier. So it would be a choice if you would want to do that route if the player might be due back in May or June.

Like the all star break idea. Adds another layer of strategy, while also helping out guys who have players that will most likely miss all of 2024

I prefer the ASG break...
Basically designate players "long term IR" and they will count towards cap but not count towards 31 man roster limit....Commissioner makes approval on all players, so if you have some ridiculous contract that gets a sprained ankle in spring training he wouldn't be designated towards the long term IL...but if you have tommy john guys or significant injuries were it's known they're out for a bulk of the start of the season they're eligible..
Like jasson domminguez will be back more than likely before the ASG. The mariners will have to decide to keep him on the 31 man roster or not be able to use him at all until at least the ASG to free up a roster spot.
I think we should designate it like ASG to remove long term IR guys and offseason so it's easy to keep track of.
If you don't remove guys at the ASG break then you are keeping them out the whole year.

We have to make QO decisions by December 1st. The poll has been up two weeks and that's plenty of time. The results will alter what some of us do in the offseason. We're held up by the same people every year that don't participate in free agency, trades, get their cap under control, etc.

We are going to close the vote and have an offseason IR. We will use the Covid Section in the MLML spreadsheet and rename it. So once you put a player there, you can not bring them up until the all-star break. At that time, the player will be moved to the normal IR. These players will still count towards your salary cap.

The teams that have not voted yet are the Rockies, Royals, Yankees, and Orioles.

We voted for long term IR, we cannot activate the guys designated for long term IR until the all star break....we didn't factor in if a team trades these guys
NYY is putting scherzer out there but he's on the long term IL (not allowed to be activated prior to all star break)...we have to determine if the team trading for him would be able to activate him or still have to leave out until all star break.
It's not a huge deal but I told Padres eventually I'd like to try to organize all our rules and put them in one spot because we have a lot of stuff voted on over the years that hasn't really been updated in the constitution so there are random rules scattered around the forum. This could be a loop hole in a rule we easily fix
