2016 MiLB Draft Round 2
Baseball History: Maz blasts off
October 13, 1960: Pirates second baseman Bill Mazeroski hits the first World Series-winning homer in baseball history, providing a thrilling conclusion to one of the greatest games ever played. Having been outscored by the Yanks in the previous six games by a combined score of 46-17 and surrendering their 9-7 lead in Game 7, the Pirates send Mazeroski to lead off the bottom of the ninth against pitcher Ralph Terry. Maz swings away and smashes the ball over the leftfield wall, propelling the underdog Bucs to victory. “It culminates a storybook World Series win by the Pirates,” says Jon Thorn, baseball’s official historian.
