NYM Trades
2024 4th round pick (61)
KC Trades:
Joey Ortiz (minors)
I accept. Need some SS depth and hoping Ortiz gets a crack at the SS job either in Baltimore or via trade elsewhere

We are giving up top 100 prospects for 4th round picks now?

We are giving up top 100 prospects for 4th round picks now? KC put in the draft chat he was looking for a pick for Ortiz, anyone with a pick could’ve made the same offer to him.

Baltimore doesn't seem inclined to trade Ortiz, and he's blocked by Gunnar and Holliday. I think he's a good player with a very uncertain future. Top 100 is vague, misleading, terminology in this case. Or in any case really. Some guys get ranked solely on projections they'll never reach. Some guys get ranked and it's acknowledged in the rankings that they don't actually project to be this good, they just had a season too hot to ignore. And sometimes, like Ortiz, they get ranked based on the idea that they could be good if they ever found the right situation, but no one has any idea if that will ever happen. It's not like I'm trading Jackson Holliday for a 4th round pick. I'm trading a gamble for a different gamble.

I'll also point out that sites like baseball prospectus don't have Ortiz anywhere near their top 100. They have him as the O's 9th best prospect. MLBpipeline rankings are just one take among many.

Oh, and one more crucial fact. Ortiz is already 25. He'll be 26 this year and still doesn't have a job!
