I just wanted to let everybody know to be transparent that we have let the Rockies have a free drop of Stephen Strasburg. With that big contract and his injuries the past couple of years, we have decided to let him have a free drop.
Moving forward, we will do this in the future for other teams if needed. It would have to be requested by the manager and approved by the commissioners. But in general, if your player misses more than 75% of the last two seasons, you might be eligible for a free drop.
This is more for letting a team be able to not be dragged down by this contract. If it was a new owner, they would probably use the free drops on them anyways.
Please let me know if you guys have any questions on this.

I don’t have an issue with the free drop, I’m just curious how this will work in the future, since I’m pretty sure Strasburg was already injured while his auction took place.
I assume this would mean if someone like Liam Hendriks were unable to play this year, would that be able to be a free drop, even though his auction took place after his diagnosis?

There should be no free drops like this bc it is going to cause issues down the road for everyone

All good points. I guess I just don’t know if it was the same injury. But yes, we all take gambles on players and I don’t want to have it where it is no harm no foul with these contracts. And this might just be a one time exemption that we won’t do again. But I know that won’t be fair to everybody either.
Hendricks was dropped for free because of the unfortunate circumstances. Who knows when or if he would ever pitch again at this point. But the new owner accepted that when they won him knowing that. Now if he announces his retirement, then it would be a free drop.

That would save him $20 cap and then he can drop stras for the 50% if he's still over...plus he never made any arbitration/player option decisions which would also have cleared him cap space

I think the occasional free injury drop is a good thing. That said, it should have clearly defined conditions. I don't care about bid vs real-life contract. I'll use Strasburg and Hendriks as an example. In Hendriks' case, I'd say if they are ALREADY on your team, and they are diagnosed with cancer, you get a free drop. If you bid afterward, you are accepting those risks, and therefore accepting all penalties. For injuries, I think 3 years would be better than 2 and the injuries must be related. Strasburg basically hasn't pitched since 2019 because of TOS, so he'd be eligible however you acquired him. But if a guy has TJ one year, a torn ACL the next, and a broken ankle the 3rd year, his name is probably Mitch Haniger or Stephen Vogt, and he's not eligible. But if the injuries are either recurring or linked (blow out your elbow trying to alter your mechanics from shoulder surgery), and you miss most of 3 seasons, yeah, that's no one's fault at that point. Free drop him.
If you bid on a Strasburg AFTER he's been an injury drop, the same conditions that apply to post-cancer diagnosis bids would apply. I also think we should color-code all such bids on the Google sheet so that it's easy to know. All post-injury/cancer drop bids would be one color letting everyone know that no further free drops can ever be applied to them (unless a new owner takes that team).
MLB teams have insurance for when a player goes down. This would be less immediate help, but a form of insurance nonetheless. But it's all just suggestions. As always, as long as we don't become a points league, I probably don't care all that much.

Then I could have potentially got a free drop with Hendricks which I didn't
I simply waived and accepted penalty and the same should be done through out the league imo
Obviously I'm good with whatever

I have said this before and I realize life can get in our way a lil bit , but this is a dynasty league and requires more effort not only to be competitive but in fairness to the other managers that are here trying to compete every day …
