I understand there is no penalty for guys who are in the "purple" years. Isn't it the same as not picking up the next year of arbitration for "orange" players?
Also, He is eligible to be moved to my MiLB roster (he is under 50 IP). What would prevent me from moving him to my MiLB and then dropping him at no penalty?

This is what I understand about this situation. We had until March 1st, I believe, to make our decisions on all of those players. After that date they are automatically accepted. If they are on your MLB roster, they have a value. If dropped from MLB, they have a penalty.
That being said. You have the option of shifting him to your MiLB and dropping him at no penalty, but that is the only way to do it without incurring a penalty. We have to follow the rules. Hannes or Bryan, please correct me if I am wrong.

I always had it where we can drop the rookie contracts without penalty during the offseason. In general, all purple color contracts (rookie contracts) can be dropped during the offseason without penalty cause their contracts are not guaranteed. But during the season, there will be a penalty for dropping them. The only way to not get a penalty for dropping them is to demote them to the MiLB or Dev Roster if eligible. I would say for rookie contracts it is okay to have the deadline of Opening Day cause you might not want to hang on to the player if for some reason he don't make the MLB team. For example, Michael Taylor of the Nationals, he isn't eligible to be on our MiLB or Dev Roster cause he has too many AB's. But there is a slight chance he don't make the MLB roster after on opening day. A manager might not want to roster him on his MLB roster and pay his salary.

That is understood, but those are the risks. I say we wait for Hannes and Ralph to weigh in on the topic and see what they say. My only hangup is that all other decisions have to be made by Mar. 1st. And, I believe, that I was once penalized for dropping someone that was a minimum player last year.

For my above post, please reference my dropping of Vidal Nuno last year on Mar 18th at 7:22am. I was charged 50% of his rookie contract salary. He isn't eligible for arbitration until next year. Just want to share that. Same month, same situation.

To make it it consistant for the league please make a posting to demote Miller to the MILB and then you can drop him with out penalty. All rookie contracts can be dropped without penalty up until March 1st.

I have made the requisite move in the MiLB thread to make room to add the two players above aquired in free agency to my MLB (Juan Nicasio P and Andrew Bailey RP). Thanks!
