Hey guys,
I recently talked to Bryan about breaking down one of the last things we did when we started the league. It was not allowed to trade picks for other draft years than the upcoming. However, as this is obviously allowed in MLB and our system of documenting and archiving is pretty advanced we think that this would be another good change.
Bryan and I agreed that it should be allowed to trade picks that are 3 years away (e.g. 2017,2018, 2019).
Please vote and note your thoughts. Thank you.

Just my opinion here but I feel like 3 years is a bit too much, I think it should be the same as the cash trades, so only 1 year in advance (2017 & 2018 in this case), being able to deplete a team's draft picks for 3 years would make it very hard in case an owner leaves the league, even 2 years sounds like a lot in case of a rebuild but it does add a lot of flexibility to trades.
My vote is a yes but for 2 years.

Yes for 3 years No for 2 years ? I voted yes but stated what I wanted as a comment as to not create confusion, I'm definitely in favor of adding at least a year

I'm kinda like Jorge 3 years seems a bit much. You don't want someone taking over a team that has no draft picks for 3 years. I am definitely in favor of 2 years though!

I vote no. It makes no sense at all to trade a resource that is three years away. First off what value would you assess a 1st rd pick that is three years away? Is it worth more or less than one that is one year away? Then what happens if one team trades all their draft picks for a hope to win it all in one year? This team would have no future to look forward to and then there might be a team or two who happens to collect all of these traded picks who will be set for their own future.

I agree the 2 years does sound better if we do it. I will edit the poll to see where people stand. I will add a choice of 2 years. So we will have 1 year like we do now, 2 years, or 3 years. You can change your vote.

I agree 2 years is better. So 2017/2018 picks now then once next year starts you can trade 2018/2019 picks.

Any idea when this will be implemented? My reason for asking is I know the league becomes dormant for a few weeks for turnover for the following season. I suppose I'm asking because people will want to set up their roster for 2018. For example, those teams with option years might want to trade their 2019 picks for 2018 cash to cover whatever salary they might be short in.
Concerning trades, when might we be able to make trades official this off season?

I would think that after the season is over for the rule to start running. As for the trades I am not sure of what would be good, probably Bryan will have a better answer

I think the best thing to do is start trading the picks after our draft. That way it's fair for everyone and gives everybody a full slate. Everybody will have 2 first round picks available.
As for trading after the season we will take a 1-2 week time to lock the moves and transfer everything to 2018.
As for trading during the draft I'm okay with it as long as it don't hold the draft up.
